Videos on my computer don't show video, they just play sound?

I quite enjoy watching the videos I've downloaded that include .avi files and .mov files. And I also like popping a DVD in my computer to watch it, however, I recently updated my Windows XP with some new updates and all of a sudden DVD's don't play. I tried my .avi and .mov files and they play, but only sound plays. The video doesn't show and it is quite depressing knowing I can't watch my favorite videos anymore. Any help that can be shared with this issue will be helpful.

Sounds like video codec issues. Probably missing some. Try this player to watch them.

It should be guaranteed to work. I have used this before when I couldn't watch .avi files.
Reply:I had the same problem. I went to http://www.divx.com/ and download the 'free download'. When I installed it, it had all these different things to install that you can check off. I only installed the first one, 'DivX codec' and now all my videos play.
Reply:Your computer is lacking the codec to play your videos. The codec allows your media player to decode your file and display the video. Try reinstalling Windows Media Player or any other of your favorite media/dvd software.
