You Tube videos, do they have copyrights?

hi, i just want to know whether grabbing posted videos are legal... what i mean, is it ok to grab videos from you tube? because from my own point of view the videos in you tube are for free because you are able to access and browse them freely without paying anything....

just want to know if the videos are covered with copyrigth laws... whether is it ok to acquire a copy of it as long as you don't claim them as your own... besides there are a lot of you tube video grabber softwares available in the web....

You Tube videos, do they have copyrights?
Yes it's completely legal to download Youtube videos (copyrighted or not) for your own personal use.

YouTube is not streaming media. Whenever you play a YouTube video you already have downloaded it to your computer. You can see this in IE by deleting your temp internet files (tools %26gt; delete browsing history %26gt; delete temp file), watch any YouTube video, then open your temporary internet folder (tools %26gt; internet options %26gt; under 'browsing history' click 'settings' then 'view files') and look for the flv (flash video) file (if you just cleared your temp folder it'll be the largest file). It'll be there and you can play it with any flv capable media player like VLC player, drag them to your desktop, save it, convert it whatever).

Downloading software and websites just make it easier than pulling the file out of your temp folder.
Reply:to tom. its easy, use realplayer.
Reply:every video in youtube is free for use. however if the video has a copyrigh by legal means then you can only use it for personal use.
Reply:I supposse you can download them and use them for your own use. But don't re-upload them and claim them as your own.

Had that done to me a few times, and now i have to place my username on all my videos.
Reply:Yeah I'm pretty sure that's illegal if you don't have the permission of the people who posted it. I have videos on youtube, and I'd be pretty PO-ed if I found out people were taking my videos without my permission. It might be legal, but it's rude.
Reply:unless the owner to the video has personally copyrighted them, and of course assuming that the content is not of anything THEY stole without copyright consent, then yes, although it is frowned upon.
Reply:It's legal to download, yes, because as mentioned, you're already downloading it.

However, it is probably illegal to reproduce this work and claim it as your own, or use it for profit.

"Copyright protection subsists from the time the work is created in fixed form. The copyright in the work of authorship immediately becomes the property of the author who created the work."

"6. motion pictures and other audiovisual works"

I was shown this by a friend long time ago, and as far as I understand from this, the person who created the video, or anything else for that matter, gains copyright the moment the work is completed. Although I don't know what the difference is between the things that you have to apply for a copyright for and this type of copyright.
Reply:Not sure, check on the YouTube site, if it doesn't say contact YouTube admin. Don't be nicking my vids though!!!

How can you grab it anyway??
