Creating a work in a tangible format is all it takes to copyright a video in the United States. If you made it and you can prove you made it, then it is yours.

If you want to further protect your content, you can pay the US Copyright Office to register it. That is very helpful if you ever have to resort to a copyright infringement lawsuit.

You should know however, that copyrighting a work won't stop anyone from stealing it. You will just have recourse if they do.
Reply:youtube is a video sharing community. if you post video's there, expect to have them stolen if people like it.
Reply:There's nothing to it. By creating any artistic work, the creator *automatically* holds the copyright to that piece of work. Anyone copying it without express permission (without being granted copyright either through the creator's written consent or by the terms of the license under which it is released) is violating copyright law (at least in the US). It is never ever to be assumed that "just because it's online, I can copy it," which is what the copiers are probably thinking. All rights are to be considered reserved (ie. only the creator has the right to make copies, which is what copyright means) unless it says otherwise (such as by means of a Creative Commons License). If there is no license saying it's OK to copy for specific purposes, they have no right to do so.
